Products

Inrad Optics manufactures exceptional crystalline materials, precision glass and metal optical components and photonic devices.  Vertically integrated from growth through systems, products include non-linear crystals, Pockels cells, UV filters, neutron scintillation crystals, thin crystal x-ray focusing monochromators, large transmission flats, electro-optical window assemblies, waveplates, toroids, and aspheric off-axis mirrors.

Non-linear crystals     

Inrad Optics grows nonlinear BBO crystals as well as DKDP, Lithium niobate and ZGP using a proprietary top seeded flux growth method.  This process has been refined and perfected over several decades.  All crystal growth orientation, fabrication, polishing, coating and testing of non-linear crystals is done in-house at our New Jersey facility to ensure unparalleled material traceability and process consistency.

 

Pockels Cells

Inrad Optics is a leading supplier of electro-optic assemblies and systems based on non-linear optics and motion control components.  Electro-optic Pockels Cells are used in applications that require fast switching of the polarization direction of a beam of light.  Includes: Q-switching of laser cavities; coupling light in and out of regenerative amplifiers; light intensity modulation when used in conjunction with a pair of polarizers; pulse picking.  Choose from either BBO or DKDP based Pockels Cells in a range of aperture sizes depending on your application.

 

Interferometer Flats   (Transmission Flats) 

Used in a variety of industry-standard interferometer systems, Inrad Optics transmission flats measure reflected or transmitted wave fronts of other optics. We specialize in various sizes (4” and 6”) but especially in large-sized transmission flats- 12 inches and 18 inches. Our deep understanding of interferometry allows us to produce finished optical surfaces that conform to the most demanding technical requirements related to surface roughness, sub-surface damages, optical coating consistency, birefringence and other intrinsic optical characteristics.

 

X-ray Monochromators

Inrad Optics leverages a wide range of capabilities in fabricating

and testing single crystal x-ray optics and analyzers.  Our implementation of exacting metrology and quality control techniques coupled with our proprietary optical contacting methods allows us to provide excellent quality bent crystal x-ray optics to the x-ray spectroscopy. Inrad Optics produces flat and bent x-ray crystals from quartz, germanium, silicon, and other crystalline material in a wide variety of orientations.  Our capabilities proudly include doubly bent crystals which are curved to toroidal, ellipsoidal, aspheric and spherical shapes.

 

Stilbene Scintillation Crystals

Inrad Optics grows and fabricates stilbene, an organic scintillator used for radiation detection. We offer stilbene as a standalone crystal or integrated with a photodetector.  Crystal sizes range from 5mm cubes to 100mm cylinders.  The primary advantages of stilbene are its high sensitivity to neutrons and excellent discrimination between neutrons and gamma-ray radiation.  Additionally, stilbene is a solid-state, non-hazardous material.  Stilbene has proven performance advantages over liquid and plastic scintillators and we consistently find crystalline stilbene offers significantly better pulse shape discrimination, along with lower energy thresholds, higher gamma rejection, and higher neutron efficiency.

In any optical assembly, the biggest challenge is balancing the optical and mechanical specifications, which can be at odds with each other.  A recent case in point is an external flight window designed for high-resolution airborne imaging.
