RaySearch markets the RayStation® treatment planning system to clinics all over the world. In addition, RaySearch’s products are distributed through licensing agreements with leading medical technology companies. RaySearch’s solutions are used successfully in over 2,500 clinics in more than 65 countries.
RaySearch was founded in 2000 as a spin-off from Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. The product development and the research teams are based at the head office in Stockholm, together with senior management and the central sales, marketing and service organization.
In less than fifteen years, the company has established a world-leading position in the field of advanced software for radiation therapy and hundreds of thousands of cancer treatments are delivered each year utilizing RaySearch’s algorithms and software products.
RayStation® integrates all RaySearch’s advanced treatment planning solutions into an innovative and flexible treatment planning system. It combines unique features such as multi-criteria optimization tools with full support for 4D adaptive radiation therapy. It also includes functionality such as RaySearch’s market-leading algorithms for IMRT and VMAT optimization and highly accurate dose engines for photon, electron, proton and carbon ion therapy. The system is built on the latest software architecture and has a graphical user interface offering state-of-the-art usability.

Multi-criteria optimization/ rayNavigator
rayNavigator introduces the concept of multi-criteria optimization (MCO), which provides an alternative optimization workflow. Instead of the planner performing iterative optimization with adjustments to optimization functions and weights RayStation generates a set of Pareto plans.
These plans respect all constraints and no objectives can be improved without impairing another one. Based on these plans, the planner or physician can manipulate sliders in real time to balance between clinical trade-offs.
An interactive navigation tool for selecting the best clinical trade-off based on fluence-based anchor plans.
rayFallback is a tool for creating additional plans to be used in a contingency situation, enabling a patient to be treated on another machine, possibly with a different modality and/or treatment technique, in case the original machine is unavailable.
By combining dose calculation capabilities (for any modality) and deformable registration, it becomes possible to accumulate dose over changing anatomy within a single system, i.e. without imports or exports to other systems. This includes computing dose on CBCT.
rayAdaptive provides tools for adaptive re-planning and opens up for the most recent technology in the history of external radiation treatment. Based on the results from rayTracker, the clinicians can steer a derailed treatment back on track by re-optimizing and adapting the plan to the patient’s current anatomical structures, taking accumulated dose into account. Plans can be re-optimized and adjusted to compensate for dose coverage problems or to adapt to adjusted clinical goals.
